I use Salomon Speedcross series a lot for my trail running training and races. I also posted a few videos on my YouTube channel with some feedback on different generations of this model. Here is my Salomon Speedcross 6 review as a blog post.

I would like to start with covering some basic questions.

When Will Salomon Speedcross 7 Be Released?

As per SoleReview the new generation is scheduled to be released very soon, on March 18th 2024. The new model will feature both new sole and upper part.

On the upper part we will see improved nylon mesh for better breathability and protection against dirt and debris.

The midsole will feature new and improved Energycell which is expected to provide bounce-back underfoot cushioning.

Salomon Speedcross 6 Review

I liked this generation overall, but I never got used to cushioning of upper part in front. It always seemed to me there is too little layer of cushioning, so that toes and front part of the foot have room to wiggle side to side. I think it decreases stability and negatively affects effectiveness of running.

Other than that same high quality trail running shoes. The sole grip is exceptional thanks to Contagrip compound and aggressive lugs.

What I mentioned above about front side cushioning is my comparison of generation 6 to the fifth. I hope the next model Salomon Speedcross 7 will go back, closer to the original formula.

Thing To Know

Remember Speedcross trail running shoes usually come in three versions. Regular breathable and with good water drainage. Gore-Tex waterproof version that won’t let water in, but also won’t ket it out. Wide version for runners with wider feet.

Contagrip compound is soft to be able to provide great grip, hence the name. However it is not heavy-duty enough for everyday use as a casual pair of shoes. While many runners still wear them in the city as a part of code to show they are trail runners 🙂 The sole of the shoes won’t last very long on the asphalt. I know this because I have a few pairs of Speedcross shoes with completely bold sole, I can send you a photo on demand.

What is Salomon Speedcross Good For?

Speedcross is great for trail running training. You can see them very often in races as well, even though many athletes perfumer high performance Salomon s/lab series. They are also great for not very technical hiking, OCR (obstacle course racing) and walks with your dog in the park.

On this picture you can see a pair of Salomon Speedcross 6 with a pair of hare feet that I found on the very top of the mountain in Newfoundland, Canada. I guess the poor bunny was eaten by the eagle or something, wild nature!
