As you may have noticed basketball is one of our passions. We follow NBA, EuroLeague and NCAA closely and trying to visit games when possible. We also review basketball shoes. Below is our list of basketball training equipment that is proven to be effective by coaches and professionals.

Let’s be honest out of the great selection of equipment that is available on the market some items are less effective and some are really questionable.

We did not include anything we have never tried, was not recommended to us by the coach or we doubt is great for your game improvement. This list will be updated once we have new ideas.

Plyometric Box

Exercises with the jump box let the athlete improve explosive power and as a desired result for basketball the height of vertical jump.

Earlier coaches used as simple solution as staircases and stadium bleachers for vertical jump drills. More advanced option is wooden boxes, covered with rubber surface to provide some grip.

Quality plyometric boxes are made of dense foam covered with vinyl. This construction is soft enough to avoid the risk of injury if the athlete misses a jump. It’s also firm enough to provide a good base for jumps and landing.

Three sides of the box have different length, so that you can have three different options according to the exercise you perform and your skill level, allowing to practice with a gradual progression.

Agility Ladder

Is a perfect tool to develop coordination, agility, footwork, endurance, and speed. Each of these skills is developed by specific exercises, while some exercises are compound and can develop several skills at a time.

With some creativity applied you can even find some strength and muscle building exercises with an agility ladder. Since it is so simple and provides access to a lot of useful drills it is used by most basketball coaches.

Resistance Parachute

Also known as the speed parachute, resistance parachute is an effective form of training to improve athlete’s acceleration and sprinting speed. Running with the resistance parachute attached to your waist with the strap makes you leg muscles work with additional barrier.

This helps developing muscles and improve your speed skills. resistance parachute drills will make you more explosive runner, which is vital for basketball.

Coaches urge you sprinters to develop the correct sprinting technique before starting the drills with the parachute. It is less of an issue for basketball players.
