Iga Swiatek at Indian Wells successfully reconfirmed her leadership in the modern tennis world. Her impressive run consisted of consecutive powerful plays without loosing a single set in the whole tournament.

Both Ukrainian Marta Kostyuk in the semifinal and Maria Sakkari from Greece in the final stage didn’t prove they can resist the pressure of the world ranked number one. Who’s game it seems contained everything in the perfect balance. Fast and accurate serves, smart strategy, accuracy, incredible tennis intelligence and tactical skills.

The Final

Two set win over Maria Sakkari brought Iga her 19th career tittle and 20th match won in 2024. It is the best result among all the players in WTA Tour this year. The same two players faced each other in the final of Indian Wells 2022, where Iga Swiatek was India Wells winner.

The match lasted just a bit longer then an hour, 68 minutes to be precise, ended with the record 6-4, 6-0. In the first set Maria was holding the pressure put by Swiatek extremely well. She was holding the very well positioned shots put by Iga and was attacking from the baseline. However with a few break points won the polish player was able turn her dominance into the resulting winning numbers.

The second set was just the show of one player. Iga Swiatek demonstrated her best game and left no chance for resistance. The final result Iga achieved by winning 8 consecutive games.

The Crowd and The Tournament

The cheering crowd contained actors Charlize Theron, Tom Holland and Zendaya, who is working on a tennis movie called The Challengers, which is set to be released in a month, on April 26th.

Indian Wells was a great and welcoming place for WTA Tour like it always was, the challenge for the top of the rankings will continue at at Miami Open later this month.
