40th generation of Pegasus everyday training shoes was released in April 2023. I own them for almost two months now and took them for a run in variety of terrains, air temperatures, on wet and dry pavement and here is some feedback I can provide.

Nike Pegasus 40 Upper Part

New generation has the new redesigned upper part. Outer mash provides great breathability, but is prone to catching dirt and look messy. I experienced the shoes become dirty fast myself and I see them dirty on many reviews as well. Not big deal, it’s a workout tool, not a fashion item.

Cushioning is great all around and provides comfort and protection. I have heard somebody complaining about inner surface being hard on foot in the comments under my YouTube video, but I suspect incorrect size choice.

The shoes have new lacing system called Arch Lock. Laces are connected to two parallel horizontal guides. It works well and secures the shoe on the foot efficiently.

Nike Pegasus 40 Sole

The sole hasn’t changed and is the same as in previous generation Nike Pegasus 39. The midsole is made of React Foam and contains two units of Air Zoom pads which provides bounciness and responsiveness for efficient run. Outer part is made of carbon rubber, it is dense and durable, which is a needed characteristic for daily running shoes as they need to last for many miles of running.

The sole is grippy and the sole pattern is suitable for light trails application, below you can see my video testing them on gravel and sand.

Overall Nike Pegasus 40 is a great pair of shoes with affordable price point. You can enjoy Nike running technologies everyday without breaking a budget. It has everything you need from a daily training shoes. They are breathable, well cushioned, bouncy, and the sole looks durable and grippy. Pegasus line has consistently good quality throughout many years. I like the fact the first generation was introduced in 1983, the year I was born 🙂
