Miami Open updates. With the tournament in progress most pairs of the Round of 16 in WTA Tour have been set. The Round of 16 is scheduled for tomorrow Monday, 25th. The tournament have been interrupted by rain and many matches were suspended or rescheduled.
Iga Swiatek didn’t give a chance to resist to Camila Giorgi 6-1, 6-1. Swiatek will meet Czech Linda Noskova in the next round, the same encounter we saw at Indian Wells 2024 exactly two weeks ago, that match ended with the result 6-4, 6-0 in favor of Swiatek.
Emma Navarro (USA) beat Italian Jasmine Paolini in three sets 6-2, 3-6, 6-0. She will face the winner of the match between Leylah Fernandez from Canada and number 5 seeded American Jessica Pegula.
Coco Gauff storm to the round of 16 after a short two set match against Océane Dodin from France with the result 6-4, 6-0, at the next stage she will be facing either Naomi Osaka, who beat Elina Svitolina in “The Battle of Moms”, or ranked No. 23 Caroline Garcia from France.
Romanian Sorana Cîrstea also reached the Round of 16, as well as Maria Sakkari, the finalist of Indian Wells 2024.
Ukrainian Anhelina Kalinina demonstrates the powerful and consistent play leaving no chance to her opponents so far. Kalinina is the only Ukrainian who is still playing in this tournament. She can potentially meet Katie Boulter from UK at the quarterfinal stage. Boulter recently won WTA 500 tournament is San Diego.
The competition goes on, during the second week, Swiatek will be trying to get her second career Sunshine Double. Coco Gauff is probably planning to win the tournament at home and not going to make it easy for other players to go through.
There is no rain in the forecast in Miami until Thursday, when semifinals are planned, so hopefully we won’t see many disruptions in play due to the weather. We will provide Miami Open updates as soon as we have new results.
